This Mitzvah Day 2024, Gratitude has been buzzing with activity as volunteers and supporters come together to give back to the community.
Earlier this month, Gratitude hosted a Cookathon where volunteers prepared 30 hot meals for veterans at the Royal British Legion in Borehamwood.
The menu included French onion soup, vegetable curry with rice, and fruit crumble—all made from fresh, donated ingredients. In addition, 75 sandwiches were prepared for local schoolchildren, ensuring their weekly meal packs included something extra special.
On Mitzvah Day Sunday 24th November, during Gratitude’s Grocery Giveaway, Gratitude was honoured by a visit from Mayor Cllr Alpha Collins, the Mayor of Borehamwood. The Mayor expressed his support and appreciation for the work Gratitude and its dedicated volunteers do to serve the local community.

As part of the broader Mitzvah Day efforts, communities from Bevis Marks and Lauderdale Road synagogues collaborated on a packathon for the homeless.
The value of the clothing donations, including coats and other outerwear, was estimated at £10,000. These items were generously donated by the community, while additional funds were raised to purchase new warm underwear, thermal hats, gloves, and socks. Volunteers then assembled care packages, which were later collected by ProjectGIVING, whose team ensured their direct distribution to the homeless on the streets.
The project was spearheaded by a long-standing friend of Gratitude Jenny Brook who organised the amazing initiative.
Additionally, the homeless charity Action Against Hunger joined the initiative, collecting essential bags to support those in need.
Gratitude feels very privileged to work alongside such dedicated partners and is inspired by the incredible generosity and commitment shown by everyone involved. This month-long initiative has been a testament to the spirit of Mitzvah Day, showing how communities can come together to support those in need.
Gratitude extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed, demonstrating the power of collective action and kindness. Together, we’ve created a meaningful impact that will resonate well beyond this month!
