Sheila, Alexis and I, were delighted to represent Gratitude at the official opening of Sky Studios Elstree – attended by His Royal Highness Edward the Duke of Edinburgh. As Patron of the Production Guild of Great Britain, the Duke has close connections with film and TV industry.
His Royal Highness met the Universal Pictures’ production crew who are currently filming the adaptation of Wicked; featuring Ariana Grande and Jeff Goldblum.
The Duke was then introduced to the event congregants in Studio 5, who represented various charities, community services, local schools and business.
The Duke was interested to hear about our amazing charity, how we have grown from our primary aim to provide multiple support for our local community and beyond. We shared our plans to launch the Gratitude Community Kitchen in the coming months. He made valuable suggestions on how to source food to save from waste. It was an honour to meet him and be part of the official opening of Sky Studios.
Gratitude Charity is fortunate to have been named as one of Sky Cares charity partners. We had the opportunity to meet some of the inspirational Sky Studios team who have worked on the planning and development of the site.
This project has not been without its challenges, but at the heart of the development, Sky has considered the local community, and impact on the environment in their development plans for it’s impressive solar paneled sustainable sound stages.
The investment has also created hundreds of job opportunities for local people in and around Hertfordshire.
We met students from a local school, studying film production who were excited to meet the Duke and share their ambitions for the future. They spoke about a documentary that they recently produced featuring the development of Sky Studios Elstree.
After learning about our amazing hub, just a short walk from their school, they were very interested in using their social media and production skills, to support our fabulous charity and perhaps create a promotional video highlighting the incredible work that our amazing army of volunteers achieve.
We look forward to continued partnership with Sky Studios Elstree and are very grateful for their support over the past year. This has included Christmas Hampers, corporate volunteering and local internet service supply.
We wish the team at Sky Studios Elstree congratulations on the official opening and continued success in this pioneering project to put Elstree back on the map for it’s excellence in film and TV production.
Congratulations to HRH on his recent appointment as Duke of Edinburgh, a title inherited from his late father Philip.
