John and Sheila Carlisle had the great honour of receiving the Hertsmere Civic Award 2019 for Gratitude’s outstanding contribution and work undertaken for the benefit of the residents of the Borough.

Hertsmere’s unsung heroes have been recognised for their efforts and long-standing service at the council’s annual Civic Awards on Saturday night (23 March). From community champions, volunteers and youth leaders, the great and the good in the borough were rewarded in this year’s awards ceremony, held at Elstree Studios.

Gratitude was one of the nine award winners on the night, who were recognised by the Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Brenda Batten. In addition, the guests were treated to silhouette cutting by The Roving Artist and a performance from The Fabulous Lounge Swingers.

Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Brenda Batten, said: “It was a wonderful evening where we were all able to recognise and say thank you to a special group of people who do so much to benefit others in Hertsmere.

“I’d like to say thank you and well done to all of this year’s award winners. In their individual ways, each one has made a difference to the lives of others. I hope their example will inspire other volunteers to come forward and help make the borough an even safer, happier place to live and work.”

Each winner received a framed certificate and glass award in front of over 140 guests at Elstree Studios, including Hertsmere’s MP, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Stuart Nagler MBE, dignitaries, councillors and community members.
